What are Estonian special letters?
Estonian uses several characters not found on standard Latin keyboards: Š, Ž, Õ, Ä, Ö, and Ü. These letters are part of the Estonian alphabet and carry distinct phonetic values. For example, Õ represents a mid-back unrounded vowel unique to Estonian and a few other languages. Without the correct keyboard layout installed, typing these characters can be difficult or impossible on most devices.
Non-native keyboards and many international setups lack a dedicated Estonian layout, making it hard to write Estonian text correctly. This is especially common on shared computers, mobile devices, or when working on a system configured for another language.
